Year 6 enjoyed their Outdoor Learning Day on Monday. The children got to peel, chop and prepare the vegetables which were the stars of our of vegetable stew. While the stew bubbled away, the children made journey sticks as they walked around the grounds and picked up bits and pieces that they found along the way. Groups were then creative, coming up with chants, songs and raps to perform and for the other groups to learn around the camp fire. Before lunch, we dug into the tasty vegetable stew, with many children, who disliked vegetables, coming back for seconds and even thirds.
After lunch, the children performed their campfire chants and then took part in den building. The children needed to think about keeping their structures windproof as well as waterproof. They used natural materials in addition to tarpaulin, twine and rope. We had a wonderful day together and it was great to see so many smiling faces.
