MFL

Intent for MFL

At Oakfield Primary School, one of our curriculum drivers is for pupils ‘to gain greater knowledge of the wider world – places, people and cultures’.  We think it is vital for pupils to have a wider understanding of the world from the moment they enter the school to the moment they leave. Learning a foreign language is a valuable educational, social and cultural experience for our pupils. It is a necessary part of being a member of a multi-cultural society and provides an insight into other cultures.

We aim to embed the essential skills of listening, reading, speaking and writing. Pupils begin by comparing similarities and differences between different countries. In Key Stage 2 pupils have the opportunity to further their learning by studying the French language. It is our intention that by the end of their primary education, pupils will have acquired an understanding of both spoken and written French, building a foundation for learning other languages.
