They will be tested on Mathematics and English - these will reflect the new national curriculum. These tests are intended to be more rigorous. There will also be a completely new marking scheme to replace the existing national curriculum levels.
Year 6 children will sit tests in the following subjects:
Grammar, Spelling and Punctuation
Reading
Mathematics: Arithmetic and Reasoning
Marking of these tests will be done externally and your child’s marks will be used in conjunction with teacher assessment to give a broader picture of their attainment and progress. Writing will be solely teacher assessed. A science sample paper may be written by some children, we will know closer to the time whether any of our pupils have been selected.
The previous national curriculum levels have been scrapped. Children will now be given scaled scores. In the end of year report, you will receive your child’s scaled score and whether they have reached the national average. The score needed to reach the national average will be announced towards the end of the academic year.
Very important:
Please note that if your child is ill during this week please telephone the school as soon as possible so that we can rearrange a date later this week for your child to take the test they have missed. We are unable to authorise any holidays in the month of May.
